Drinking in the View
What makes a great watering hole memorable? Sometimes it’s the drink, sometimes the atmosphere, and sometimes it’s simply what happens to be sitting beyond the table. I’ve always had a soft spot for places where you can settle in with a beer, cocktail, coffee, or meal and find yourself staring out at something extraordinary. A medieval town from a hillside pub, an endless ocean from a beachside lounge, a city skyline from a rooftop, or a mountain landscape from a little bistro you almost missed. The drink is almost beside the point.
There are thousands of wonderful places around the world with spectacular views, so this is very much a personal collection rather than a definitive ranking. These are some of the watering holes I’ve stumbled across in my travels where the view was good enough to make me linger a little longer, order another drink, and simply sit and stare. Pull up a chair. The view is waiting.
